Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! On our daily tours we teach you all about the animals in our care, and most important, how to protect them!

Our residents arrive from every corner of Liberia, having been rescued from the illegal bushmeat and pet trades. Most were confiscated by local authorities or discovered with injuries and brought immediately to our care. Today, the sanctuary serves as a vital refuge for these survivors, providing them with the rehabilitation and protection they deserve.

All animals - Chimpanzees are the only exception, as we don't have the infrastructure to keep them adequately. They are handed over to our colleagues at "Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue and Protection".

That's our main mission! Every animal gets evaluated individually to check if a release is possible. The animals we can't release will be "ambassadors" of their species and serve to educate people on the importance of protecting wildlife in Liberia, while providing them a life of dignity.

Contact the FDA (0775982126) or the Wildlife Crime Task Force (0777549916) and they will take the necessary actions.

DON'T BUY THE ANIMAL YOURSELF!

Buying the animals is supporting the illegal trade. You might think you saved one life, but in reality you provide funding for poachers.

If you encounter an injured or orphaned wild animal, please contact us immediately before attempting a rescue. While our mission is to provide a haven for wildlife in need, it is vital to coordinate with local authorities and our veterinary team first to ensure the animal is handled safely and legally. We can guide you through the next steps and help facilitate a safe arrival at the sanctuary.

We love creative partnerships! Whether you are a photographer looking to tell our residents' stories, an artisan interested in crafting sustainable goods for our gift shop, or a blogger wanting to highlight conservation in Liberia, we are always open to fresh ideas. If you have a unique skill or a platform you’d like to use to help our mission, please reach out to us with your proposal—we’d love to see how we can work together to give our animals a louder voice.

To keep our grounds pristine and our residents safe from human food, we don’t allow outside snacks inside the sanctuary area. However, you can find refreshments and local meals at the nearby Libassa Ecolodge.

Your support reaches us no matter where you are in the world. You can help provide food and medical care for our ambassadors by becoming a monthly donor or "adopting" an animal through our website. Sharing our stories on social media is also an incredible way to help us raise global awareness for Liberia’s unique biodiversity. Also we are open for all kinds of collaborations, just send us a message.
