FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we come and visit?

Yes! We would love to share our passion for wildlife with you! We will teach you all about the animals in our care, and most important, how to protect them! We are open every day and tours are at 11 am, 2 pm and 4 pm. There is a US $10 entrance fee per person, $5 for children between 3 and 9 and free for children under 3 years old.

Schools are very welcome it is $5 per child and $10 for adults.

The welfare of our animals is top priority. That's why we will ask you not to touch or feed any of the animals at the center.

Where do the animals come from?

From all over Libera! Animals all over the country are getting confiscated by local authorities and are brought to the sanctuary as soon as possible. All the animals at the sanctuary are victims of the illegal bushmeat and pet trade.

What do we do when we see an animal being sold or being kept as a pet?

Contact FDA (0775982126) or Wildlife Crime Task Force (0777549916) and they will take the necessary actions. DON'T BUY THE ANIMALS YOURSELF! By buying the animals, you are supporting the illegal trade. You might think you saved one animal, but in reality, you provided funding for the next animal to be taken from the wild.

Can we come and volunteer?

Yes you can! Look here for more information or contact us on  libassa.wildlife.sanctuary.lib@gmail.com.

Do all animals get released?

That's our main mission! Every animal gets evaluated individually to see if he or she is a good candidate for release. The animals we can not release will be "ambassadors" of their species and will be used to educate people on the importance of protecting wildlife in Liberia.

What animals do you take in?

All animals: pangolins, primates, birds (of prey), antelopes, crocodiles, carnivores,... you name it!

When a chimpanzee is brought to the sanctuary, he/she will be handed over to Liberia Chimpanzee Rescue and Protection, as we do not have the infrastructure to keep chimpanzees.
